Summary:
Oversees key aspects of the accounting department and reports to the Chief Financial Officer and President of the company. Ideal candidate has strong accounting acumen and desire to take on responsibility and grow within their field.
Responsibilities:
Financials and Operational Metrics
- Drive monthly closing process to allow for timely insights into the business financials.
- Calculate and issue monthly financial reports and provide analytic insight based on historical company knowledge.
- Calculate variances from the budget and report significant issues to management.
- Responsible for intercompany journal entries and balances between different legal entities and subsidiaries (domestic and international).
Payables/Receivables
- Ensure that payables are paid in a timely manner and entered accurately.
- Ensure that receivables are collected promptly.
- Ensure that all reasonable discounts are taken on accounts payable.
- Provided CFO and Leadership with suggested weekly A/P vendor payments based on review with account payable team.
Banking
- Oversee and assist with the daily bank reconciliations, which includes reconciling the cash accounts in QuickBooks Desktop based on previous day activity.
- Responsible for access and movement of funds at direction of leadership.
- Responsible for frequent reports regarding global cash balances to management.
Payroll
- Monitor the payroll function of the company and review for accuracy.
- Provide a system of management cost reports.
External Audits & Third Party
- Responsible point of contact for the annual external audit and adherence to timelines.
- Responsible for compliance with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.
Other/Administrative
- Desire to assist management in implementation of new technologies related to accounting.
- Ability to assist in separate real estate ventures accounting and bookkeeping in Quickbooks Online.
- Identification and implementation of stronger controls, where necessary.
- Maintain an orderly accounting filing system.
- Maintain the chart of accounts.
- Manage outsourced functions.
- Oversee the operations of the accounting department, including the design of an organizational structure adequate for achieving the department's goals and objectives
- Assist in the production of the annual budget and forecast.
Qualifications/ Requirements:
Must have Quickbooks Desktop experience and familiarity with Payroll/HRM systems; experience with running and managing accounting team; excellent use of Excel and Microsoft Office Suite; a professional appearance and telephone manner, capable of maintaining confidentiality; knowledge of Maryland state tax law and regulations; ability to juggle multiple tasks and demands and meet monthly deadlines; exceptional analytical and problem solving abilities; ability to interact and communicate with all levels of the organization; desire to grow and work collaboratively with team members and leadership.
Education/ Training/ Experience:
BA/BS Degree in Accounting, CPA desirable, five plus years of experience in all aspects of accounting and well versed in issues encountered by Controllers
